Navy Round Lap Robe Sunday, February 09, 2003Done!! 66" square - the last row had more than 1,200 stitches. Wild. Interesting project but probably not one I'll do again. I used a total of 19 skeins Saturday, February 08, 2003Well, I put a finer eye to the skein count - now at 16 with 3 left and I don't have enough for a final row of full diamonds so it's going to have to be half diamonds and then a border. It will look fine. Friday, February 07, 2003I've now used up 15 skeins and I have four left of this color - I think I'm going to come out about even. Thursday, February 06, 2003Jake wanted a piece of the picture action in this shot so I said - ok... started the last of the diamond rows... Wednesday, February 05, 2003Moving right along... Tuesday, February 04, 2003Skein #13 used now... My current thinking is one more round of diamonds and then finishing edge... Monday, February 03, 2003My one 60" needle finally broke in two so I had to switch to four 36" needles - it's kind of like using really really long double pointed needles but it's working out ok. Used up skein #12. This shot is a bit different. It's mean to give you an idea of the mass of the thing. It is getting a little unwieldy. Sunday, February 02, 2003Made some major progress here... I've now used up 11 skeins. And may still do yet another row of diamonds... Saturday, February 01, 2003There are now 200 stitches on a side or 800 stitches on each row! But, there is still plenty of room on the needles so I'm going to keep going. Friday, January 31, 2003The ruler isn't exact... It's just to give you an idea of the progress. 9 skeins used so far - working through the second row of diamonds. Thursday, January 30, 2003Only a couple of rows accomplished but it's moving along nicely. It's kind of fun to knit even with one of the needles patched with a bandaid - literally! Wednesday, January 29, 2003Skipped a day - dija miss the update? No knitting, no update. Them's the breaks. But, I'm back now with another episode. Finished off skein #8 and am halfway through the second diamond row. Monday, January 27, 2003Total skeins now used = 7. Today's shot is of half. You can, hopefully, make out the center square at the bottom of the picture. Sunday, January 26, 2003One of my knitting needles is getting ready to break again. The shaft piece breaks away from the cord that holds the two shaft pieces together. It's not broken off yet and I've taped it together in hopes of keeping it so I can at least finish this piece. Then I'll send it in for a replacement. I did go from one 60" circular needle to two so you can now get a better idea of what it's looking like. It's about 45-50" inches across now and I've used up 6 skeins so far. Saturday, January 25, 2003Finished off skein #5. You might notice that some of these pictures show a different color than others. This is because I am trying to learn how to use my graphic software to get the most accurate photo... Friday, January 24, 2003One down side of this particular afghan is that it isn't an automatic lap warmer. Because the knitting of it is like knitting a giant baggy, it doesn't cover much of my lap yet. I must remember this as it might make a good afghan pattern to make when it's hot! Thursday, January 23, 2003I just finished skein #4 which means I'm about 1/5th the way through an afghan the size I usually make. This could get interesting. Wednesday, January 22, 2003This is moving along nicely... I really like these diamonds. I may just add another row of them. Tuesday, January 21, 2003Good question today... this sucker is blue - it's a real dusy navy blue but it is blue. I am way too old and there is not enough good lighting in the world to enable to me knit in black any more. Today's photo should give you some detail. It's only about 30 inches across so far. The diamonds are a nice touch. Monday, January 20, 2003It's difficult to see in this picture but I did get half the diamonds done. I'll try to snap a closeup of them tomorrow so you can see. The pattern calls for the border right after the bottom of the diamonds but I think I'm going to go back to stockingette stitch for a while and then maybe even another row of diamonds. So far, I've used 3 skeins to get it this far... And, as you can tell, it's moving along fairly quickly. Sunday, January 19, 2003New Project!! Back to Past Projects - Back to Current Projects
