Tuesday,
June 5, 9 a.m. - I'm back! I had a great visit
with Mom in Charleston, SC. While I was gone they
did get the rest of the tri-chord up. It's going
to be interesting to see the work on the northwest lump
up close. The doghouse is still on the northeast
lump. I wonder how they are going to get out there
and paint that lump? The painters have made great
progress. The ironworkers must be prevailing on
the painters to keep their advertisement that they
painted on the center of the span. |
Wednesday,
June 6, 4:45 p.m. - We're having a beautiful day
here. The painters seem to have forgotten that
middle part of the east side arch. There are more
and more concrete posts replacing the steel on the
platform for the big scoreboard. And, in today's
photo you can see the web of rope or steel or whatever
all over the east side seats. It looks strange
from my terrace but this is the first time I've been
able to see it in the photo. |
Thursday,
June 7, 3:30 p.m. - Another beautiful day.
Today's big change, however, is that the flag that's
been atop the arch since they joined the center has been
taken down! Maybe they are going to finish it off
(the painting, I mean) soon and had to get it out of the
way. |
Friday,
June 8, 3 p.m. - I was right! They are
starting to paint the last of the top span. My
Mom, who is still wondering about where those trees went
that used to be atop the northwest tower, thinks that
the flag may be in hiding somewhere with the
trees! Although the photo does not show it very
well, the big pile o' rocks is slowly getting less
big... It's been there so long now, it's hard to
imagine life without it. |
Saturday,
June 9, 1:30 p.m. - The site is very quiet
today. I can't see anyone working. I did
forget to mention that Big Blue has his 'big' back
on. Remember for awhile on the east side he had
this huge extension on his crane (hence the name Big
Blue)? Well, he's got it back on now to do the
work on the west side. You can kind of see it in
this photo. |
Sunday,
June 10, 1:45 p.m. This time last year we had a big
pile o' rocks and a fabulous sky. Today's sky
isn't too shabby but the rocks have been morphed into
quite the stadium! |
Monday,
June 11, 3 p.m. - When I went to take the picture
today I discovered the crane was depositing a bucket
load of workers on the northeast lump! There are
stairs up to there but I guess going up via crane is a
bit easier on the knees! I also spied a group of
'suits' - men and women in hard hats. Must have
been some kind of high level tour. They, at least,
managed it between rains. |
Tuesday,
June 12, 3:15 p.m. - We have a rather dramatic sky
today. And lots of circles. In most cases
you can't see very well, but they all surround little
pockets of work going on here and there. There is
a platform just west of the northeast tower that has a
bunch of workers on it. I cannot figure out what
they are doing. And there are lots of workers in
the seating areas. Greg made a trip to the site
this weekend and posted a fabulous report of his
findings on the ClamCam
Forum... check it out. |
Wednesday,
June 13, 4 p.m. - I caught Big Blue in action!
In the top right hand corner of the photo you can see
him dropping stick-like things to the little bitty
people working on the west side roof. A gorgeous
day here but we're cheated out of a Mariner game by the
rain in Denver... :{ |
Thursday,
June 14, 3:15 p.m. - There is lots of action around
the site today. The side you can see of the
northeast tower has a lot of action. They were
doing a good bit of welding there yesterday and you
could see all the sparks flying. Rich found an
interesting article on the real grass/fake grass of the
field in the Tacoma
News Tribune. |
Friday,
June 15, 2:45 p.m. - Much going on here
today... The arrow on the right points out where
they are already starting to lay down some roof on the
east side! The arrow on the left points out a guy
who is up there doing godknowswhat - he's been up there
for a while and really easy to see with the white
background. And, they are making more painting
progress. But, the big news, the really big news,
is that I got a job!! Starting a week from Monday,
I will be the Marketing Communications Manager for Par3
and I'm very excited. And I don't even have to
leave the neighborhood. In fact, I'll be able to see the
stadium from my desk! |
Saturday,
June 16, 1 p.m. - Well, they must have been in a
scurry yesterday so they could take today off.
There is not a creature stirring on the whole site
today. It's kind of strange - like it's been
abandoned. Creepy almost. |
Sunday,
June 17, 2:45 p.m. - It's just a perfect day outside
and nobody is wasting it working on the site. I
can't even see any security guards! This time last
year, it looks like it was a nice day, too. If it
weren't for the cranes, the picture on this day last
year would be deadly dull!! |
Monday,
June 18, 4 p.m. - Lots of action around the site
today... The weekend must have been good for
everyone. You can barely see in the top
right hand corner of the picture, but there is a tiny
patch of roof that is getting done. There is a
whole crowd of people up there right now like maybe they
are having a meeting... Seems to me they could find a
more handy place to meet. |
Tuesday,
June 19, 2:45 p.m. - There's a new bit of activity
just to the right of the base of the grand
scoreboard. I cannot tell what's going on quite
yet. But, see that gap between the scoreboard and
the west tower? It's not here on the east
side. It's for the cranes and other big machines
to get out when they are done working inside. Once
they are out of the field area, that side of the
scoreboard base will look just like the other one. |
Wednesday,
June 20, 4 p.m. - Well, the painting is done!
Except I hope they don't forget that they still need to
do the beaks. I can't see the one on the south end
but the one on the north end needs to lose its dog house
and then get painted. I think the white is just
spectacular. It just gleams from everywhere. |
Thursday,
June 21, 3 p.m. - I just noticed that the
scaffolding is gone from the west side of the northeast
tower and the brick facade has been put on that
wall. It's so subtle that you might not even be
able to pick it out of the photo. They sprayed water on
it today which is what made me notice it. Very
cool. |
Friday,
June 22, 2:15 p.m. - Check it out... we've got seat
action! Or something... From the terrace it looks
like they have placed big blocks of Styrofoam on a
section of seats. Interesting material choice,
don't you think? Also in today's red circle are
the suites. You can't tell from the photo but the
glass is already installed in all those suites.
Maybe, during the game, I can spy on the folks in the
suites... I'll need to upgrade my binoculars. But,
I have a while. |
Saturday,
June 23, 3:45 p.m. - We've got more Styrofoam
seating added today. I'm sure it's not Styrofoam
but it sure does look like it even with the
binoculars. Also there's an annex getting started
just to the right of the base for the big
scoreboard. In today's really big photo you can
see more of the work they are doing on the west side
roof. |
Sunday,
June 24, 11:45 a.m. - I can't see any action on the
site today but the big news was last night. About
9:45 I started hearing sirens. This is not all
that unusual as there is a fire station two blocks from
here. But, I kept hearing them and lots of
them. I finally got up and went to look.
Several large fire trucks and several ambulances and
lots of support vehicles all with their sirens on and
lights flashing were going into the stadium work
site! They went around the northwest tower into
the bowl. I saw a couple of guys running like mad
from the security station at the north end over towards
the bowl. But, I couldn't see much else.
About 15 minutes later, they started leaving.
There was nothing on the news or in the newspaper last
night or this morning so I'm sure hoping it was a huge
false alarm. (Oh, and per usual on Sunday, the
photo on the right is from this day last year. |
Monday,
June 25, 5:30 p.m. - Today was the first day of my
new job and it was such a full day that I didn't get
home during the day. By the time I did get home,
there was no one working on the site. Turns out I
cannot see the site from our offices. There's a
corner of a building in the way - so no office
cam. |
Tuesday,
June 26, 5:15 p.m. - Again today, most everyone is
gone. But, it does look like there is increasing
action in the center there (red circle) - more materials
getting ready to build my view blocker,
er Big Score Board. |
Wednesday,
June 27, 1:30 p.m. - They are rearranging the
Styrafoam seat things. I still can't figure out
what the heck those white things are. I put a
circle around an area that near the northwest
tower. You can't see it really well, but they have
installed standards there (the orange ones) and, I
suspect, are getting ready to install the same kind of
stairway thing that they have on the northeast
tower. |
Thursday,
June 28, 5:30 p.m. - Ok, now I'm getting
worried. In today's circle you can see where they
are building out that platform towards the west
side. The problem is, that both of the big blue
cranes are still inside! Do you think they might
have forgotten? Getting those suckers out could
get very tricky... On the other hand, maybe they could
be woven into the games! Oh and yesterday I said
that I thought they were getting ready to install those
stair like things on the west tower (like you can easily
see on this side of the east tower). Well, they
are already there and were there yesterday, I just
didn't see 'em. |
Friday,
June 29, 5 p.m. - They are really building up that
base and I am now getting seriously worried about how
they are going to get those cranes out! This is
crazy! They are really working on the west side
now. It's just that we can't see it from my post. |
Saturday,
June 30, 1:30 p.m. - You can see today that there is
still a bit of a path for the cranes to escape.
But, I got a note from Terry who says that a bigger
crane could just come in and pluck the blues right out
of there. That would be amazing to see.
Today it is quiet on the site but I can see, over the
corner of the west wall, that at least one of the blues
is working. |
