Special Note for February 9: We have a beautiful
new logo!! Todd Breda of
Dreaming Mind
Productions and
Seahawks.Net created this wonderful drawing for me. I am so
grateful and so delighted. What a fabulous addition to these pages.
Thanks so very much, Todd!
The New Stadium...
February 2002
remember, all photos are thumbnails - click on them to get the bigger version
When you see
you can click on it and get a really big, non-zoomed version of the day's photo!
Every Saturday I take an extra large photo and
every Sunday I replay the photo from the same day the year before.
Friday,
February 1, 1:15 p.m. - More trench work today.
In the news today is evidence that terrorists may be
targeting places in the Seattle area. They found
pictures in a computer which included the Kingdome.
I'm thinking that window of opportunity has pretty well
shut. Of course, there are still highway signs with
the Kingdome logo on them and state signs noting which
exit off the freeway takes you to the Kingdome. I've
wondered over the past two years how many people are still
looking for it...
Saturday,
February 2, 3:30 p.m. - Wow... some days you get lucky
and today I did. The light was just perfect and both
of today's are more clear and crisp than I've been able to
get recently. No action on the site but at least you
can get a good up-to-date look at the progress so far!
Sunday,
February 3, 9 a.m. - When the sun is behind a cloud
early in the morning I can get this cool, blue looking
photo of the site that really shows the different light.
The picture from this day last year is kind of boring so I
thought I'd go back 2 years. The picture on the
right is the Kingdome on February 3, 2000. It's one
of the last days when the Kingdome really looked like the
Kingdome.
Monday,
February 4, 3:30 p.m. - They took the plastic off the
elevator bays on the north west tower! And, the dirt
pile has it's very own trailer today. It must be
Dirt HQ.
Tuesday,
February 5, 1:30 p.m. - They are still working on the
scoreboard tower. I caught a worker half way up the
side there doing something. They are making more
progress in the plaza as well. A lot of the new
holes have been filled. Oh and remember that big
yellow slab there on the north east tower? It's
gone! Progress!
Wednesday,
February 6, 2 p.m. - We got a delivery of something
today - see circle. Maybe it's the bleachers for the
seat section at the base of the big scoreboard? And
a personal note. I've had to move a bunch of photos
from one server to another and I think I've gotten them
all replaced and re-linked. But, if you see a broken
image, would you send
me a note? Thanks!
Thursday,
February 7, 1:30 p.m. - More ditch digging in the
plaza. This evening they have put the plastic back
up over the elevators in the north west tower. And
they put away the stuff they got delivered yesterday.
Thanks to everyone who found broken images... I think I
may have them all fixed now but if I missed one, please
tell me!
Friday,
February 8, 12:30 p.m. - Lots of busy on the site
today - new holes in the plaza, etc. (They have been
like gophers out there.) But, the big news is that
after more than two years of using the stadium logo on
these pages, I got an email today from the Washington
State Stadium Authority telling me to take it off my
website. Explicitly saying to take it off all the
pages. The email said that they were afraid people
would think that this was an official website. I
think they are being ridiculous. I can't imagine
that anyone would think this was an official website and I
would think that they would welcome the publicity.
If I were an artist, I'd make up my own... I may still
give it a whirl. Next thing you know the Kingdome
people will come back to life and tell me to deep six my
little Kingdomes! (I'm a bit wound up about this -
I'll get over it, but I do think it's petty and mean.)
Saturday,
February 9, 1 p.m. - Thanks for all your 'cards and
letters' of support. You guys are the best.
I'll get a new logo and it will be better than theirs.
So there! Now, back with our regular programming.
I can hear site work today but can't see it. All the
dirt trucks are lined up for weekend rest - you can see
them in the XL picture. A couple of days ago, Daniel
posted a note on the ClamCam Forum about Dan Sherbeck's
webcam which I had not checked in a while. He has a
new vantage point which not only shows stuff you can't see
in mine, it is directly pointed to where a lot of work
will be going on in the near future. Check it out
for yourself - go to
Sherbeck.Net and click on mini-cam.
Sunday,
February 10, noon - Remember when we first saw the
arch of the roof? It was only a year ago.
Amazing. I can't see any action on site today which
is not surprising. But they are missing one of the
few non-rain days we've had recently!
Monday,
February 11, 2:30 p.m. - Today looks like a day
devoted to yard work. They have filled in all the
holes in the plaza and roped off a large area that is all
nice and grated. This plaza is going to be so nice.
Tuesday,
February 12, 3:45 p.m. - I just missed getting a
touring troop in the photo. There must have been
20-30 guys in suits and hardhats walking double file from
the front steps around to the Turner Trailer. They
looked kind of cute all together with their hats.
Hey, Robert found new photos at
First and Goal and it looks like my guess, last week -
that the delivery was bleachers was on the money!
You can also see my condo building clearly from one of the
shots. And, Ray sent me a tip about this very cool
story in the
Engineering News Record. It has a lot of really
interesting information and pictures and drawings.
Wednesday,
February 13, 3 p.m. - Today's commentary is all about
links. Tony discovered that
First and Goal has even more updated photos and he
also noted that
Charpy has a new great high resolution view up.
And, Sean sent me a link today to the
webcam at Safeco where they are redoing the field for
a soccer game. I know it has nothing to do with our
stadium or my view out my terrace but it's such a cool
site - you can zoom the camera in and move the shot.
It's wild.
Thursday,
February 14, 12:45 p.m. - We have been robbed!!!
You'll be able to see in Saturday's big picture but I need
to prepare you. Someone stole the dirt pile! It is
nearly all gone. There has been a pile of some kind
- rocks, pebbles, dirt, something for so long and today
it's just flat. Pretty wild.
Friday,
February 15, 2:30 p.m. - Well, we have a new thing
today... a big white thing on a truck in front of the
steps. Maybe it's a scoreboard thing? I
thought they were starting to paint the northwest tower
today but maybe not. We are supposed to have a
weekend of rain.
Saturday,
February 16, 3:30 p.m. - The dirt bandit apparently
felt guilty and returned some of the dirt. He (or
she) even returned some of the rocks. There's a tiny
little rock pile there in the dirt area that you can see
in the XL photo. Not much action on site today.
There were some things going on early this morning but
nothing this afternoon.
Sunday,
February 17, 2 p.m. - There were some worker kind of
people around the site this morning but I couldn't see
what they were doing and then I didn't see them at all.
On this day last year we still had the rusty thingies.
Remember them? Wonder where they are now?
Monday,
February 18, 4:30 p.m. - It didn't look like many of
the workers took Presidents Day off. At least the
dirt movers were out there moving dirt. And, the
noise makers were out there making noise. They still
haven't done anything with the giant white board yet.
It makes me want to sneak out there with a marker and
write Do Not Erase or Kilroy Was Here (now, which one of
those you 'get'. if either, will show your age.)
Tuesday,
February 19, 1:30 p.m. - I guess my graffiti threat
worked... the giant white board is gone. There's a
strange circle marked off on the ground. You can see
part of it in front of the north west tower. Maybe a
future circle driveway? More dirt arrived today.
Wednesday,
February 20, 4:30 p.m. - More dirt moving around and we
have a couple of new little piles of rock (only I think
they are asphalt pieces they have dug up). Robert found a
great page of photographs of the site. The page
takes a while to load and the top few photos aren't
spectacular but be patient and then scroll down the page
for some really good shots from the air.
There's a couple of excellent shots of the west side of
the stadium.
ShadowHawks Photos
Thursday,
February 21, 4 p.m. - We have a new addition to the
site today... more porta potties! See the red
circle. They didn't move dirt today - it was mud.
But, that didn't stop 'em. I found out today that
the Seahawks store across First Ave from here will close
at the end of this month to get ready to re-open in the
stadium. The staff there didn't know when the new
stadium store would open.
Friday,
February 22, 3 p.m. - We're back down to one porta
potty. They must have put them all out yesterday for
pickup. Porta potty removal is a sure sign of
progress. I am getting worried about the lack of
paint on the northwest tower. Hope they haven't
forgotten.
Saturday,
February 23, 11:15 a.m. - Not much action today.
But, Tony discovered that the Seahawks website has updated
their stadium info with lots of interesting information
and they have added a pretty cool Flash movie.
Check it out!
Sunday,
February 24, 4 p.m. - I could never get the sun to go
behind a cloud so I could get a good shot today... We had
no clouds! I reached back two years for today's
history photo. The poor old Kingdome had one month
left when this was shot.
Monday,
February 25, 5 p.m. - They are really moving that dirt
around the Plaza. I can't see much of anything else
going on although I'm sure the place is busy. I can
see a tiny bit past the grand scoreboard and it looks like
there are even seats yet to be placed in the lower
grandstands. And... there's the painting...
But, they still do have 124 days left.
Tuesday,
February 26, 2:30 p.m. - Get ready... here's the
broken record, again.. They moved more dirt today.
Seriously this dirt moving is a big deal apparently.
That must by why the dirt pile got it's own trailer.
Wednesday,
February 27, 5 p.m. - Miscellaneous items: Our
days are absolutely getting longer. A month ago, a 5
p.m. photo would have been nice and black. Tomorrow
is the anniversary of our big
earthquake. First and Goal has a nice
fish eye view of the dirt taken last week.
Thursday,
February 28, 1:30 p.m. - There were workers working on
the steps when I took these photos - on their knees
working but even with my binoculars I couldn't tell what
they were doing. Later, after this picture was
taken, they lined up a bunch more porta potties outside
the northwest tower. I suspect they'll be gone
tomorrow like the last batch.
